shutdown that Pain-Abortion bill on Monday
The Democrats and two Republicans (Senators Susan Collins (ME) and Lisa Murkowski (AK) shutdown Sen. Lindsey Graham’s (R-SC) Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act (Pain-Abortion bill).
The Republicans failed to get the 60 votes needed in order to get the bill over a procedural hurdle.
The bill failed the procedural vote with 51 yeas, 46 nays, and 3 not voting. So yeah, it wasn’t going to make it anyway.
Democratic Senators Bob Casey (PA), Joe Donnelly (IN), and Joe Manchin (WV) tried helping the Republicans out but they just couldn’t.
Casey though made it clear that his joining the GOP’s team in order to get Graham’s bill through is not evidence that he’s (Casey) team GOP on all issues pertaining to the women folk and their reproductive health.
Casey told folks in a statement, “I am a pro-life Democrat, which means I support women and children before and after birth. I have fought against multiple Republican attempts to defund Planned Parenthood and have advocated for funding for contraception (Title X). I have also taken the lead in opposing Republican schemes to decimate Medicaid and Republican budgets that substantially cut programs like the Women Infants and Children (WIC) programs and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).”
I haven’t heard anything about why Donnelly and Manchin voted the way they did. But…I’m quite sure that they would say something similar to what Casey said.
Like Casey, Donnelly and Manchin are pro-life Democrats who live in red states where God is more important than your mama and daddy.
It’s a good thing the Pain-Abortion bill didn’t go through because if it just would’ve been a step towards criminalizing women and girls who get an abortion.
Now, now, now I know the bill makes it clear that the mother will not be charged. However, it’s hard not to look at that for what it is.
And what it is using women to make criminalizing healthcare providers who perform abortions acceptable to the point that the criminalization of the healthcare providers sets a precedent to criminalize young girls and women who get an abortion.
Oh yeah, anybody else notice that nobody ever says anything about the man who puts the woman in a position to have an abortion?
Can somebody say, “Accessory before, during, and after the fact.” Yup, the folks in Congress haven’t thought about what to do with the men folks who get the women folks pregnant.
A woman can’t have a baby without a man. The man provides the sperm that impregnates the woman.
So, she wouldn’t be in a position to have an abortion if the man didn’t have her in different positions leading to her being placed in a position to have an abortion.
Mm-hmm. Plus, it’s only a matter of time before they charge the mother for getting an abortion.
Think about those Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) laws the government used in order to imprison sophisticated criminals who run organize crime organizations, and how the government is now using the RICO laws in forfeiture cases against everyday Americans. Yeah, that’s how they do.
Not only that, the Republicans have Donald Trump on their side with the abortion issue.
Y’all remember when Donald Trump told alleged serial sexual harasser and former TODAY Show host Matt Lauer that “there should be some type of punishment for the woman?”
Welp, if that Pain-Abortion bill had gotten through it more than likely would’ve set the precedent for there to “be some type of punishment for the woman.”
Hell, y’all don’t have to look far to see that the mother would’ve eventually been charged as well.
States like Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Kansas are criminalizing women and girls who get an abortion; even in the case of rape or incest.
And then there’s the state of Ohio where Gov. John Kasich signed bill making it illegal to have abortions 20 weeks or later.
Sounds similar to Congress, doesn’t it? That’s because it is. The Republicans in the Senate, of course, aren’t done trying to get their abortion bill through.
Rep. Marsha Blackburn’s (R-TN) bill (Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act) made it to the Senate on January 20, 2018.
Blackburn’s bill charges healthcare providers with a felony if they perform abortions at any stage during the pregnancy.
Blackburn’s bill reads as follows, “The term ‘born alive’ means the complete expulsion or extraction from his or her mother, at any stage of development, who after such expulsion or extraction breathes or has a beating heart, pulsation of the umbilical cord, or definite movement of voluntary muscles, regardless of whether the umbilical cord has been cut.”
Yup, that “at any stage of development” is in-line with the religious belief that life beings at conception.
It’s just a fertilize egg at conception. I know, back to the men folks impregnating the women folks again.
Conception can’t happen if the men folks don’t provide the sperm for conception. Mm-hmm, can y’all say accessory before, during, and after the fact.
Somebody better look into all of that about how those women folks get in a position to have an abortion if they don’t have a man who’s willingly or forcibly placing sperm in a woman that ends up fertilizing her egg.
That conception stuff. I tell ya. For their part, the Republicans believe they are doing the right thing by criminalizing abortion.
As evidence, they gleefully cite the Marist Poll which was commissioned by none other than the Catholic anti-abortion organization Knights of Columbus.
In other words, I wouldn’t place too much stock in that poll considering who it was conducted on behalf of.
The good news is the Republicans didn’t get that archaic bill through. The bad news is they will keep trying until they have the same success as they did with that healthcare bill they have yet to find a real solution to.
